A BAND based in the North West has won a prestigious music award.

Lowes, who are based in Lancaster and Kendal have won the first ever BBC Radio 1 Dance Vocalist of the Year Award.

Band members, Evie Plumb (Kendal), Luke Paget and Jamie Walker (Lancaster), make up the trio who have been taking the dance music scene by storm this past year with collaborations with CamelPhat, Sigma, High Contrast, Franky Wah and more.

On winning the award lead vocalist, Evie said: "We were absolutely blown away, it's hugely rewarding, we have had a big year and a lot of work has gone in from the whole team and to have something to show for it at the end is amazing really."

Lowes released their first song in 2016 and were signed to Sony Records a year later. Being signed so early on in the band’s life meant that the last few years have been all about developing the act.

On what they enjoy about being in the band, drummer and producer Luke said: "The live element of this band is hugely important to us and something we are so excited to throw ourselves into in 2022. We always bring 110% energy to our performances and love to connect with fans in that way, these debut headline shows are now our big focus - we want them to be impactful, memorable, and euphoric!"

The BBC have been hugely supportive of the band from the beginning, right from the local level with help from BBC Introducing in Cumbria and Lancashire, to national level, with their songs gaining hundreds of plays on Radio 1.

Looking ahead to 2022 and the band are set to move away from collaborations for a while and concentrate on their own music, guitarist, Jamie said: "2022 is all about bringing the focus back to the band - after a year of epic collaborations, the New Year will see us release our very own music and perform our own shows, its a very exciting time and we want to thank everyone for their support so far."
