A GUESTHOUSE is set to reopen under new management after a complete refurbishment next week.

Grant Smith will open The White House in Bowness on January 27 following 14 months of work to transform the Grade II listed building, which dates back to 1834.

The former car salesman decided to take the plunge into hospitality with the purchase of the guesthouse in September last year and was eager to reinvigorate the building while retaining its period features.

The guesthouse has 13 ensuite bedrooms and will be unmanned with coded doors.

And Mr Smith has promised a unique experience for would be guests.

“People can expect a unique experience where no two rooms are the same, from double showers, free standing baths, and a couple of the rooms have switchable smart glass so if you press a button the glass goes like smoke.

“It’s different to anything you’ll see in the area but still with the Lake District feel at heart.”
