Cancer charity Rosemere Cancer Foundation is looking for groups to join it in working up an appetite for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Big Lunch by walking across Morecambe Bay in the company of the Queen’s own guide.

The walk begins at Arnside Pier for the seven to eight mile trek across the sands to Grange-over-Sands.

The charity’s chief officer Dan Hill said: “We have been given Sunday, June 5, as this year’s date for our annual fundraising Cross Bay Walk. It is the final day of the four-day Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday and the day of the Big Lunch.

“It’s a special time in the history of our country and what could make it more memorable than taking on this iconic walk with the people who mean the most to us in the presence of the Queen’s Guide to the Sands, Michael Wilson? We are due to set out at 9-10 am so should be finished in time for lunch – a celebration picnic perhaps!”

Entry costs £15 for adults and £10 for children aged between eight and 16 years.

As the sands can sometimes be wet and rocky in places, the walk is not deemed suitable for very small children, pushchairs, wheelchairs or those with limited mobility although dogs are welcome.

There will be coaches available to take walkers wanting to park at Grange Station to the start in Arnside. For further practical information and to register, go to www.rosemere.org
