KENDAL and Netherfield will enter the Northern Premier Cricket League with high expectations in the run up for the season.

The League gets underway on April 23 and it promises to be one of the most competitive seasons for a number of years.

Netherfield will be keen to build on a good 2021 season where they finished second and won the Twenty-20 competition in a dramatic final against Morecambe.

However due to last season’s success, Netherfield have a busy fixture schedule, where they are involved in a variety of different cup games, including the National Knockout, Lancashire Cup, Twenty-20 as well as the 40 over Cup.

Off the field, the Club had voted in Steven Wilson as the new chairman after long standing Chairman decided to stand down, while on the pitch, Matt Jackson begins his first season as Club Captain taking over from Ben Barrow who will continue to play for Netherfield.

Jackson who used to captain Torrisholme, is busy preparing his team for the new season, which includes the imminent arrival of Indian Professional Ashutosh Singh, while New Zealand overseas Amateur Dan Bernet will be playing First team cricket after playing in last season’s successful second team,

Bernet who had a strong 2021 campaign will also be the new vice-captain, as he looks forward to a first season in The Northern Premier Cricket League.

However, The Field face a difficult start to their season where they travel to play Garstang on the opening day before hosting defending league Champions Blackpool the following weekend.

Kendal will also be keen to do well for the new season, after a disrupted 2021 campaign saw the Auld Greys finish sixth in the table.

And prior to the end of last season, Kendal signed Indian Professional Rongsen Jonathan, who played for Morecambe last season.

Rongsen had a strong season for Morecambe despite their relegation after he amassed 1044 runs which included three centuries in both league and cup.

He also claimed a respectable tally of 33 wickets at an average of 19.52 while his last game in England saw him smash a scintillating century against Netherfield in the t20 final where he scored 104 out of Morecambes first innings total of 152.

Kendal begins their season at home to Fulwood and Broughton on Saturday 23 April before travelling to play St Annes on Saturday 30 April.

The Clubs Second Team will also be playing in Westmorland Cricket League Division One this season as they travel to play Trimpell on the opening day with their thirds hosting Milnthorpe on Sunday 24 April.

Kendal & Netherfield resume their derby rivalry on Saturday 2nd July where Kendal host Netherfield before Netherfield host Kendal on Monday 29 August.
