A Kendal woman has organised a torchlight walk-around to raise funds and to highlight the plight of one particular Ukrainian city that has suffered from heavily during the current war with Russia.
Mhairi Helme is the woman behind the 'March for Mariupol' on Thursday March 24 starting at the Birdcage in Kendal Town Centre at 7.30pm
Anybody can participate in the 2.5km walk and she is urging as many people as possible to come, their support and donate to british-ukrainianaid.org/make-a-donation.
Mhairi said: "Mariupol is the southern besieged city which currently has a massive humanitarian issue.
"They basically have no water, sanitation or power now and around 50,000 children in a population of 400,000 are stuck there, and many civilians are being targeted.
"As part of looking into donating oxygen generators I ended up speaking to the Deputy Mayor of the town and it is such an awful, awful situation.
"I just wanted to particularly show our support and remind people to keep Mariupol in mind.
"Hopefully our government and the United Nations can push for further humanitarian corridors to release civilians there.
"I feel we need to be talking about Mariupol every day."
