A BOAT company has been shortlisted for a prestigious school travel award.

Windermere Lake Cruises educational work with schools has been recognised, with the company named as a finalist in this year’s school travel awards.

The Lake District’s most popular paid for visitor attraction is nominated in the Best Geography Learning Experience category of the prestigious national awards.

A spokesman for Windermere Lake Cruises said: “It is always lovely and very rewarding to see school children having an exciting and educational day out in the Lake District.

"There is so much to see and so much to learn as they cruise.

"Our staff are very knowledgeable and whether it’s finding out all about the area’s geography or its rich history – they work incredibly hard to make sure the classes have a fascinating time.”

The annual School Travel Awards recognise inspiring people and the very best companies, venues and attractions providing school trips.

Organised by School Travel Organiser magazine, this special initiative celebrates learning outside the classroom and raises the profile and importance of school trips for children.

The 2022 Awards Lunch and Ceremony takes place on Wednesday May 25 at the five-star Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

Windermere Lake Cruises is nominated as a finalist in the Best Geography Learning Experience Award.

The nature of Geography learning lends itself to the outdoors and trips on England’s longest lake have created fond memories for many youngsters who have visited as part of school field trips.

The award celebrates the venue, attraction or site that has made a lasting impression on school pupils.

It also considers the educational outcomes, as well as how engaging the experience was for staff and students.

The nomination follows a busy period of school cruises. Windermere Lake Cruises is fully open for educational visits throughout the year and welcomes school parties from across Cumbria and from further afield.
