A COUPLE is excited to bring a taste of Texas to the area as they prepare to open a traditional Texas-Mexican street food takeaway bar.

The Ranch is a new Tex-mex street food takeaway bar opening on May 18 situated on  1 Bolton's Place, Ulverston.

It will be selling traditional Texas tacos, burritos, and rice bowls with two different kind of pulled meat, fresh salsa, guacamole, and everything on the menu is gluten-free with a variety of vegan and vegetarian options, set in a Texan décor venue which has some stools for people to sit it but is typically enjoyed taken away.

Behind the new venture are co-owners and husband and wife, 33-year-old Alex and 36-year-old Whitney Hunter who was born and bred in Texas, America, and wants to bring the Texas culture and experience she loves and grew up around to her new hometown.

Chef Whitney said: “We stumbled upon the venue last summer and got everything finalised and the lease in in autumn, it’s just been the two of us and we had some delays, but we have some amazing staff now who have helped speed it up.

“I joke maybe because I’m good at cooking the food I want to eat but I really want to share the food with people from my background and what I grew up eating and love. My family has a BBQ restaurant in Texas and I’ve always been around it so it was the right time to jump in.

“I love the Texas, Mexican culture and wanted to share this cool experience of tex-mex food with the community.

Alex, who is originally from London, met his wife Whitney when they were working in Madagascar for charity. They did long distance for a while before they got married and Whitney moved to the UK jut before lockdown. They decided to relocate to Ulverston as they enjoyed the country lifestyle.

Whitney said: “The community has been so supportive after we announced the opening, everyone in the area is so friendly and has a great sense of community which is why we wanted to start a business here.

“We are really excited and really proud of what we have done and can’t wait to share this venture with everyone.”

Currently, you can only order inside the shop with no need to pre-order.

The couple hopes to offer delivery services including being available on local apps soon.
