NETHERFIELD Cricket Club picked up their first league win of the season following a resounding 63 run victory at Leyland.

The Field played well, despite being without a number of players, while Daniel Bernet deputised as captain in Matt Jackson’s absence.

Aaron Stephens kept wicket for the team after he was called up from the seconds while Robbie Dwyer and Oli Wileman were also brought into the squad.

After losing the toss and being put into bat Netherfield made a slow start where both Ben Barrow and Lee Hogg were dismissed.

Barrow scored 17 off 27 before he was bowled by Kurtis Watson while Hogg picked out James Critchley from Karl Cross’s delivery with Netherfield on 52-2.

Josh Dixon and Indian Professional Asutosh Singh regained some control after both edged Netherfield onto 103.

Leyland broke the partnership after Iain Critchley picked up the wicket of Josh Dixon who departed for 34 off 87 with the former Morecambe Captain seeing his effort caught in the field by James Rounding.

When Iain Critchley dismissed both John Mason and Brad Earl, Netherfield were under some pressure.

However, Asutosh Singhs knock of 53 kept the runs ticking over for Netherfield before Singh was caught by Ian Farrington off the bowling of Nasir Nawaz.

Daniel Bernets quick knock of 16 off 15 saw Netherfield surge ahead before Critchley dismissed the New Zealander.

Both Isaac Medhurst and Aaron Stephens went in quick succession where Critchley finished with figures of 6-41, while Oli Wilemans undefeated 21 off 16 saw Netherfield close on 189-9 off 50.

Leyland started positively with both James Rounding and James Critchley posted a first wicket stand of 41. John Mason broke the partnership after he dismissed Critchley who was caught by Brad Earl before Mason claimed two quick wickets where he saw off both Kurtis Watson and Nasir Nawaz.

When Asutosh Singh seized the prize wicket of Rounding who was caught behind by Aaron Stephens Netherfield were in total control.

Oli Wileman applied the pressure when he trapped Karl Cross LBW before seeing off Iain Critchley, Leyland attempted to bat out for the draw with Ian Farrington and Michael Birchall.

Netherfield broke the partnership after Bernet caught and bowled Birchall and when Singh claimed the wicket of Ian Farrington, the field closed in and victory was confirmed when Singh dismissed Joe Shackleton who fell to a good catch by Ben Barrow with Leyland bowled out for 126 off 49.1 overs.

On Sunday Netherfield began their T20 campaign with a 10-run win at Garstang, Brad Earls 31 and Dan Bernets 30 saw Netherfield post 116-8 off 20.

In reply 2 wickets each from Asutosh Singh, Oli Wileman and Lewis Richardson saw Garstang close on 106-7 off 20 overs.
