THE LANDLORDS of a popular pub have said farewell after 16 years at the helm.

Andrew Hipwell and David Hughes will hand over the reins of the Station Inn, Oxenholme, on Wednesday (May 18) after they completed their last day of trading on Sunday (May 15).

In a statement, the publicans said the last two to three years had been ‘most challenging’ but said their time running the inn had been ‘enjoyable’.

They also thanked their ‘excellent’ staff and customers and looked back on the large number of events, charity nights and clubs.

“We would like to give a massive thank you to all the staff who have worked for us over the years especially Allison and Hanna who have been with us since the beginning, you have done extremely well to put up with us for that long,” they said.

“We have had some excellent staff who have worked extremely hard we couldn't have done it without you.

“Also, a big thank you to all our customers, we have befriended some great people over the years, especially the infamous Sunday club.

“On the whole, it's been an enjoyable time.

“Like most businesses the last two/three years have been most challenging.

“There have some great highlights including organising some great events including weekly quizzes, charity horse race nights, charity bonfire and fireworks night, dog shows, children’s Halloween parties, and a fire walk.”
