A WEST Cumbrian charity will launch a new daytime service- thanks to a more than £80,000 grant from Sellafield Ltd.

Hospice at Home West Cumbria is celebrating after receiving an exceptional grant of £85,000 from the Bedrock Awards, part of ‘Transforming West Cumbria’, which is funded through Sellafield Ltd’s social impact, multiplied SiX programme, and delivered in partnership with Cumbria Community Foundation.

The programme promotes thriving communities by supporting sustainable activities that create self-reliance and independence, and this generous award will enable Hospice at Home West Cumbria to launch an exciting new ‘Support at Home’ daytime service.

The service will provide a package of care and support for patients in the comfort of their own home, who are within a few months of end of life.

It will help to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and facilitate discharge, especially for those individuals who are in need of additional day time support.

Lorraine Dixon, Head of Care & Quality at Hospice at Home West Cumbria said: “This is a completely new service for Hospice at Home West Cumbria, and we will shortly be recruiting key staff in readiness for the launch later this summer.

"We are very grateful to staff at Cavendish Nuclear for their valued support in helping us to prepare our successful funding bid.

"We are especially thankful to Sellafield Ltd for this incredible grant which will make such a difference, enabling us to reach more people who need our care when they need it most.”
