NATIONAL Children’s Day was celebrated in the UK last week, celebrating the importance of a healthy childhood and how we need to protect the rights and freedoms of children in order to ensure that they can grow into happy, healthy adults.
Before we know it, the summer holidays will arrive, meaning that Copeland parents will be looking for things to do to keep their children entertained.
Ten places to take children in Copeland, selected by you, are:
Horse riding – Families have the opportunity to ride some home bred horses and ponies at Bradleys, on the fells above Ennerdale.
Seascale Beach – Danielle Walker recommends beachcombing, where you search the area for things of value or interest, before taking a trip to Mawson’s for an ice cream.
Puzzling Place – The attraction on Keswick’s Museum Square is filled with illusion exhibits, a gallery of holograms and 3D images and a puzzle shop.
Muncaster Castle – As well as the gardens and hawk and owl centre, the castle also hosts learning events where kids can take part in workshops and minibeast hunts throughout the year.
Ravenglass Railway – The seven-mile line runs to Dalegarth Station, near Boot. Some feel jumping on the ‘Ratty’ to Eskdale is worth every penny.
St Bees Beach – Taking a trip along the Solway coast and having a play about on the sand is a popular choice for parents in the area.
Jungle Jacks – The indoor play area at Whitehaven Sports Centre is extremely popular with younger children and they offer a range of sessions for older children all year round.
The Beacon – The museum was purpose built with access in mind, so their exhibitions are user friendly for all ages and abilities, and all five floors are accessible to wheelchair users.
The Rum Story - Set in the original 1785 shop, courtyards, cellars and bonded warehouses of the Jefferson family, the Lowther Street attraction has been authentically designed to provide all-weather family entertainment with a nicely educational back.
Grandparents – although this suggestion may have been said in jest, we imagine both child and grandmothers and grandfathers would love getting to spend time with each other.
