RESIDENTS in Kendal were shown plans for the Flood Risk Management Scheme at Gooseholme Park last week and were able to have their say on the proposals.

The session at Castle Street Community Centre on Wednesday, May 11, near where the improvements to the Stock Beck Pumping Station and Gooseholme Park flood defences are proposed, provided an opportunity for residents to talk to the Environment Agency team and contractors who are working on the project.

The improvement works are part of the larger multi-million-pound investment by the Government to improve flood protection for homes and businesses in Kendal.

Members of the community viewed architects’ designs, artists’ impressions and information on the plans, which are due to be submitted to South Lakeland District Council later this month

Environment Agency Area Manager, Stewart Mounsey said: “It has been great to see so many residents coming to see the work we are planning for the Gooseholme area of Kendal and to talk to us about the plans for the flood risk management scheme and to give us their feedback.

“It is important to get the scheme built as quickly as possible to protect homes, businesses and infrastructure in this area of Kendal. We are now seeking feedback around the final design that we have created, and all comments received will be fed into the planning application submission.”

The plans are available to view on The Flood Hub website - www.thefloodhub.com/kendal and leave your comments.

When complete, the Kendal Flood Risk Management Scheme aims to better protect 1,480 homes, 1,150 businesses and key infrastructure from flooding.
