VILLAGERS no longer face the prospect of travelling miles for their post office needs.

It has been announced that Greenodd post office will be moved from its current location to Greenodd Village Hall.

The current premises in Main Street will no longer be available for Post Office use after May 27 at 12.30pm.

And the new premises is scheduled to open on May 30 at 12.15pm.

Janet and Lloyd Willis ran Greenodd Post Office for 18 years before deciding to sell the business in 2020 so they could retire.

The site stopped operating as a full-time post office in 2009 despite the community rallying to try and save it.

It operated as an outreach service and only had a post office counter for three and a half days a week.

Earlier this year the couple submitted plans to convert the business into residential use following a ‘lack of interest’ from buyers.

The property had been on the market for 18 months.

The application stated the outreach service could be relocated elsewhere in the village if plans were approved to convert the property into a home.

A spokesman from Post Office said: “Our priority is to safeguard our services in the locality in the longer term and the relocation of Greenodd Post Office will enable us to maintain a Post Office service to our customers in the local community.

“Therefore, the decision has been made to relocate.”

The new post office opening hours will be Monday: 12.15 – 4pm; Tuesday: 9am – 12.30pm; Friday: 12.15 – 4pm.

Residents can have their say on the move until June 30, 2022.
