A teenager was arrested after he was found in possession of a knife.

A police officer was patrolling in Milnthorpe today (May 19) when they stopped a 15-year-old regarding ‘shoplifting offences’.

The teen then produced a knife and admitted to carrying the blade for ‘their own protection’.

A spokesman from South Lakes Police said: “Some people can be very quick to judge the police for some of the ways situations are dealt with and to the untrained eye can appear heavy handed.

“However, you just never know what some people’s capabilities are or what threat they pose to you.

“A single crewed police constable patrolling Milnthorpe today stopped to speak to a young man regarding some shoplifting offences.

“A knife was then produced by the 15-year-old who after being arrested freely admitted carrying it on their person for their own protection.

“Please, please, please think about the consequences this could have to you if you carry a knife and to any victims and family/friends of any victims. If you have a friend or family member that carries a knife, please discuss this with them and explain the dangers.
