IF YOU are looking for some plans to keep entertained over the next week, look no further as we have rounded up the events taking place across South Lakeland.

1. Country Fest

On Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29 head down to the Westmorland County Showground for the Country Fest. 

Preparations are underway for another fun-filled weekend for all the family.  Kite Displays, Arena demonstrations, marquees, competitions, historic cars, military vehicles, Vintage emporium, lots of food & drink or soak up the sunshine and kick back listening to one of the many amazing performers on the bandstand.

Tickets are currently available on the Westmorland Agricultural Society website.

2. Verbalise

On Saturday, May 28 head down to the Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal or online for Verbalise. Doors open at 7:30pm.

In-person tickets are £6 and zoom tickets are £3.50 the night will feature guest poet Rich Davenport.

3. Drypoint with Vicky Peake 

Drypoint is an intaglio printmaking technique where an image is incised into a plate using sharp metal ‘needle’ tools. It’s an expressive printmaking technique which is close to drawing in its immediacy and responsiveness.

You’ll learn how to create a plate, ink and clean your plate, soak the paper and make a series of prints. You’ll explore drawing or design transfer, mark making, colour and tone and learn how inexpensive materials can be used to make amazing prints.

Tickets are currently on sale for £45, the event will start at 10am till 5pm.

4. Street Market

This Saturday, you can head down to the Ulverston street market and grab yourself some bargains and support independent local businesses. The market takes place every Thursday and Saturday.

5. Litter pick at Ford Park Run

As part of ‘The Great Cumbrian Litter Pick’, Morecambe Bay Partnership have teamed up with Ford Park Run (Ulverston) to clear litter found in the surrounding areas.

You can join the litter pick after completing the Park Run – Lauren from Morecambe Bay Partnership will be there organising the event. Non-park runners are very welcome to join too.

Wear suitable clothing and footwear for outdoor activities.

Bring your own gloves if possible, the rest of the litter picking equipment will be provided.

6. Torchlight 2022 Launch Dinner

On Saturday, May 28 we will be celebrating the official launch of Kendal Torchlight 2022. Thanks to The Venue at Bowness Bay Brewery, Aynam Road.

The party is being held to say thank you to people who have supported, participated and given their time to the tradition.

This celebration marks the start of this year's activities and we will launch with a bang! There will be a preview of what this years theme represents and music from The Seals who are guaranteed to get everyone up and dancing.

7. South Lakeland Zoo entry

Over the weekend head down to South Lakeland Zoo. The Zoo is home to over 1,000 of the rarest and most endangered animals in unique natural environments which enable you to learn about the animals on show.

Tickets for adults are £19.99, children go for £15.99 and under-fives go free.

8. Season Opener Saturday

On Saturday, May 28 head down to the Cartmel Racecourse for a race day like no other. Bring your own furniture, food and drink and relax in to a big garden party, whilst the horses thunder past.

They will have a great DJ playing each day, with other entertainment. There are food and drink concessions on-site, alongside plenty of facilities.

Adult tickets are £22 if booked in advance and under 17's go for free if accompanied by an adult. 

9. Dorothy: Writer, Sister, Friend

Head down to Dove Cottage in Grasmere for Dorothy Wordsworth's story, told in her own words from original manuscripts in celebration of her 250th birthday.

The exhibition will kicked off on Friday, April 1 between 10am and 4pm and will remain through to the summer. Tickets can be purchased on the Wordsworth Grasmere website. 

10. Dovetailing

An immersive installation composed of suspended sculptural works, alongside film and sound, to create a multi-sensory experience.

Dovetailing is an immersive installation inspired by luthiery (the making of stringed musical instruments).

Sculptor Juliet Gutch has responded to the shapes and forms of stringed instruments with a series of suspended wooden mobiles.

Filmmaker Clare Dearnaley has created a film which weaves together natural sounds, the workshop process and the movement of the mobile forms and world-renowned composer and viola player Sally Beamish has adapted and performed a new composition.
