Netherfield crashed to defeat in both league and cup on what proved to be a difficult weekend for Matt Jackson’s team.

On Saturday Netherfield lost by 49 runs at St Anne’s, before they suffered a 2-1 bowl out defeat to Formby in the Lancashire cup, where persistent rain throughout the day prevented any play leaving the game to be decided in the most unsatisfactory of circumstances.

However in the league game at St Anne’s, Netherfield restricted St Anne’s to a first innings score of 186-9, before the hosts battled back during the second innings where the Field were bowled out for 137 off 35.5 overs.

After winning the toss and electing to field Netherfield made a slow start where both Luke Jardine and Tom Higson posted a first wicket stand of 31.Louis Backhouse broke the partnership when the former Morecambe player bowled Luke Jardine, before Tim Higson and Yohan De Silva edged the hosts onto 51.

Netherfield managed to take their second wicket when Samuel Medhurst dismissed Higson who was caught by Brad Earl, while Finlay Richardson stumped Lukman Vahaluwala off the bowling of Asutosh Singh.

Yohan Da Silva and Nathan Bolus began to frustrate the Netherfield bowling attack after they guided St Anne’s ahead onto 121.Netherfield attempted to stay in the game after Asutosh Singh saw off Da Silva who was caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 44 off 91 balls before Dan Bernet bowled Andy Drake and when Singh bowled Nathan Bolus Netherfield were on top.

St Anne’s began to turn the game in their favour, and while Josh Dixon ran out Alex Bradley the hosts stayed in control, largely down to Nathan Bend who scored 26 off 22.

Singh finished with figures of 5-62 seeing off both Mitch Bolus and Bend while St Anne’s closed on 186-9.Netherfields reply saw them slump onto 10-2 where Lukman Vahaluwala bowled Josh Dixon, while Tom Higson ran out Finlay Richardson. Ben Barrow became the third wicket to fall after he was caught by Matthew Yeadon off the bowling of Mitch Bolus while the visitors struggled on 19-3.

Asutosh Singh and John Mason offered some resistance before Mason was caught by James Bradley off the bowling of Mitch Bolus, before Tom Higson trapped Brad Earl LBW.

Netherfield continued to toil as they lost further wickets slumping onto 81-7 where Vahaluwala bowled Dan Bernet before Tom Higson trapped Oli Wileman LBW. Asutosh Singh batted well for 79 off 73 balls before he was trapped LBW by Tom Higson, Samuel Medhurst attempted to stay in the game only to be dismissed by Vahaluwala before Bolus bowled Louis Backhouse as Netherfield were bowled out for 137 off 35.5 overs.

On Sunday Netherfield bowed out of The Lancashire Cup after they lost 2-1 to Formby on a bowl out. Persistent rain throughout the day prevented the game from getting underway and as a result had to be decided in the most unfortunate of circumstances.

Both teams attempted to hit the stumps where Matt Jackson’s delivery was the only one to hit, while Formby hit the stumps twice to seal the win.

Netherfield host Fulwood and Broughton on Saturday.

Netherfield's Second team continued their good run after a comprehensive 124 run victory against Great Eccleston at Parkside Road.

Josh Charles knock of 68 and David Darley’s 61 saw Netherfield close on an imposing total of 226 for 7 off 45 overs before Isaac Medhursts 3-11 and 2 wickets apiece from James Morgan and Bertie Medhurst saw the visitors bowled out for 102 off 33.2 overs.
