There is relief among some residents as Ulverston is set to move with the times after it was revealed an application for Starbucks was submitted to the council.

The Starbucks drive-through in Ulverston would be next to the new Greggs - also a drive-through - that is due to open later this year.

Rawdon Property Group Ltd is seeking permission for opening hours of between 5am and 11pm on behalf of the coffee chain.

The proposal includes 18 vehicle parking spaces, including two disabled spaces, and parking spaces for six bicycles.

Residents took to social media to share their thoughts on the news.

Anne Lowther said: "Might not happen yet, I'm sure there will be many objections like they did with Mcdonald's."

Susan Orr said: "Great news just need Wetherspoons and we are sorted."

Thomas Orr said: "Great news, Ulverston finally moving with the times."

Pam Edmondson said: "I don't understand why you would want something like this or McDonald's in a beautiful market town like Ulverston.

"One of Ulverston's many charms is its independent shops and cafes. Once places like this start popping up out of town the town centre loses trade and starts to die."

Another good news day said: "I would prefer a Costa."

Chrissy Mccarthy said: "Would be great to have a coffee shop Like Starbucks that is open past 4.30! Costa would be enough if it stayed open longer, this will mean I don't have to drive to Barrow if I want one as a treat after 4.30.

"Places like this will bring more people to Ulverston as they don't have one in Barrow and the closest Starbucks is Lancaster."

T Tims Stothert said: "Why not promote UK and local restaurants instead of promoting businesses that avoid paying UK Tax?"

Jude Louise said: "Woooooo. Love Starbucks."
