Supporters of Rosemere Cancer Foundation marked the final day of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in procession.

280 adults and children-plus a number of dogs- paraded en-masse across Morecambe Bay from Arnside to Grange to help raise funds for the charity by participating in its annual Cross Bay Walk, which this year was sponsored by Darwen-based commercial printing company Empine Group Ltd.

They were led safely across the bay’s notorious mudflats by the Queen’s Guide to the Sands, former local fisherman Michael Wilson.

In crossing the bay, they were following the lead of HRH Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh, who made the same trek by horse and carriage in May 1985.

Yvonne Stott, community fundraiser for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, said: “It was wonderful to see such a lot of people turn out on a Bank Holiday weekend to support us. Many of them wore red, white and blue and carried Union Jacks for the jubilee. Some then celebrated reaching Grange with a picnic to enjoy a Big Jubilee Lunch party. We are very grateful to everyone who made this year’s Cross Bay Walk an especially memorable one.”
