Following a two-year campaign by a Kendal Town councillor to find a suitable site for a pumptrack, an area has been designated as 'preferable' by the council.
Chair of KTC's Environment and Highways Committee Eamonn Hennessey became involved with the idea after a resident broached the subject at a council meeting in 2020.
Since then several areas have been mooted as a possible site for the proposed new pump track, which is a specialist bike track allowing downhill mountain bike enthusiasts and BMX riders to make a circuit of humps and bumps, using the gravity designed into the track, giving the experience of much longer downhill riding.
KTC commissioned Velosolutions, a national pump track provider, to create a visual representation of a pump track in situ at the foot of Kendal Castle, the preferred site.
KTC's Environment and Highways Committee will meet on Monday to further discuss the proposal, for which their agenda document says: "Velosolutions met Kendal Town Council Officers and Cllr Hennessy onsite and it was agreed the site was preferable to allow easy construction access and provide parking for users going forwards.

"The site is also secluded whilst being accessible to many Kendal residents."
Matters to discuss at the upcoming meeting are - options to secure landowner permission to proceed with funding research, options to secure Westmorland and Furness support, and options to link to the Kendal Castle footpath improvement scheme.
