A CLIMBER has tragically died after falling from a popular Lake District beauty spot, Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team has announced.

The team was called on Saturday, June 18, to a person that had fallen at Wallowbarrow crag, near Seathwaite.

The climber's injuries were sufficiently severe for Great North Air Ambulance to attend the scene, but the mountain rescue team posted that the casualty could not be saved:

"Very sadly the climber passed away on scene.

"This callout has really resonated with the team, as Wallowbarrow is a favourite place for many of us, and we too have spent many an hour climbing in the sun there.

"We would like to pass our deepest sympathy onto the climber’s family and friends and would kindly ask the public to respect their privacy in their moment of mourning.

"Many thanks to GNAA for their endless professionalism, our good friends at Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team for coming to help, and the kind people at High Wallowbarrow Farm, along with many members of the public."
