HERE are the latest results in the Westmorland Cricket League.

Westgate are 9 points clear of Heysham at the top of Division 1.

After Graeme Crowther (3/37) reduced them to 23/3 captain Andy Hill made a composed and busy 86 not out from 123 balls, with good support from Joe Bradshaw (35), Sam Frith (35) and Jack Huntingdon (35 not out) to total 210/5. Warton captain Stuart Mayor scored 34, but when he was dismissed Warton batted out the draw finishing on 119/2 with Jack Bolton (30 not out) Tom Barnfield (34 not out) immoveable.

Heysham narrowed the gap as Jamie Antcliffe (98), Lee Calverley (57), Lewis Plackett (46) and Sam McClements (37 not out) filled their boots in 252/3 declared against Trimpell who could only muster 91 in reply, Mike Bland scored 40 whilst Jamie Cassidy took 5/42 and Dave Parker (4/38).

81 from Ben Philips helped Burneside gain local bragging rights over his former team, Kendal.

Ben Leacock (46), Lewis Richardson (38 not out) and Ethan Ellwood (38) also contributed to 226 all out, Thomas Shuker taking 4/41 for Kendal 2nds and Andy Dugdale 3/46. Only Terry Hunte (37) and Shuker (24) made double figures as Kendal made 103, Philips taking 3/23 and Elwood 3/14.

Dave Jack hit 6 sixes in making 58 for Shireshead at Sedgwick.

Adam Murphy 34), Robbie Jacques (34) and Liam Burns (31) meant a competitive score of 221/8 was amassed. Tom Ridley took 4/51. Carl Bevan (30) and Mike Bracken (48) batted well, but when Murphy ran out dangerman Chris Evans (27) it left Ridley (18 not out) and Jonny Matthews (5 not out) to secure a draw. Jack took 4/50. Bare secured a vital 15 points against bottom side Kirkby Lonsdale. Frank Smith (56 not out) batted through the innings in his first fifty since returning to the club and Archit Bhardwaj made 40 in 138/4. Ben Ferguson (22) top scored but 4/25 from Jake Allison meant they fell 20 runs short. Sedbergh School 2nds beat Milnthorpe by 7 wickets.

Holme increased their lead to 29 points in Division 2 with a 5 wicket win at Ambleside, Lee Barnes taking 6/36. Cartmel slipped from 2nd to 4th after losing at home to Coniston. Mike Burton (63), Bob Simpson (46), Andrew Warne (34) and Andrew Warne (33) lifted the visitors’ score to 223, Chris Gallagher York taking 3/47. Cartmel’s captain, Joe Cowperthwaite is having a brilliant season and when he was striking 58 from 32 balls Cartmel had a chance, but Mark Fryer (4/13) claimed the last 3 wickets for no runs.

Shireshead 2nds are in second place after beating Sedgwick 2nds by 52 runs. Gareth Bleasdale made 48 oiut of the home side’s 141 as Adam Kershaw took 3/35 and Dan Lawson 3/23). Only Kershaw (16) made double figures as Mike Mead (4/20) and Ryan Danson (3/17) bowled out the visitors for 89.

A superb all round performance by Steve Beck (57 and 4/11) led Silverdale to a 81 run win against Ingelton. Luke Gorst took 3/37 as Silverdale declared on 192/9 and despite a polished 51 from Josh Capstick, they were all out for 111.

Dave Hannigan has been playing cricket for more than 40 years. He is now the groundman at Westgate and on Saturday he prepared a batter friendly pitch as the perfect surface for him to record a chanceless maiden century, 116 not out, adding 123 for the 4thwicket with Olly Whatmuff (61 not out) as Westgate 2nds made 247/5. Carnforth 2nds replied with vigour and with Adam Hornby (66) accelerating and clearing the boundary at will it seemed that anything was possible.

When he fell, Carnforth kept going for the win but finished 11 runs short on 236/7.

In Division 3, Thomas Bentley took 4/10 as Kendal 3rds bowled out Galgate for 72 before Will Yarker (31 not out) sealed an 8 wicket win that lifts them off the bottom of the table.

Steve Mawson (45), Adam Horrobin (55 not out) and Oli Battersby (33 not out) helped Morecambe 3rds total 183/5 against neighbours Trimpell 2nds for whom Chris Cannon secured a draw on 132/8.

Sam Tomlinson (77) and Michael Preston (37) guided Carnforth 3rds to 189/8, Darren Barber taking 3/42 taking a brief rest before he unleashed a swashbuckling 93 not out, receiving good support from James Dickinson (67 not out) as Arnside 2nds won by 9 wickets.

Leaders Heysham 2nds had a comprehensive win against Holme 2nds. Aiden Yates (73 not out) and James Hesketh (51) took them to 167/7 before Yates and Charlie Parker (3/5) blew Home away for 40. Mark Brickles (33) and Simon Brown (35) helped Bolton le Sands post 138 against Leven Valley, Richard Marshall taking 4/34 before George Needham’s 45 not out gave them a 2 wicket win with 10 balls left despite James Bousefield’s 4/31.

Bare 2nds and Shireshead 3rds kept up their promotion challenges with wins against Sedbergh School 3rds and Ingelton 2nds respectively. Stan Collinson (40) passed the 400 run mark for the season, but it was his dad Jonty (47 not out) who top scored in Shireshead’s 175/6.

Thomas Duke made 72 from 56 balls (10 fours, 2 sixes) but Rowan Yates (3/11) helped Shireshead to a 35 run win. Oliver Sanday took 3/16 as Sedgwick 3rds restricted Coniston 2nds to 131, which was passed easily, Ian Wilson making 57 and Bernard Pickthall 37 not out.

Kirkby Lonsdale 2nds beat Netherfield 4ths by 7 wickets and Morecambe 4thswere indebted to Dineshmanickam Annadurai (30) for their 32 run victory at Westgate. Howard Hirst took 4/12 and Ethan Packard 3/10 for Morecambe.

Sedgwick beat Arnside to take up the final place in the Hackney & Leigh quarter-finals, whilst Ingleton 2nds progressed in the Moon & Coxhill Trophy with a win against Kirkby Lonsdale 2nds.
