A 23 year old cat is waiting for a new home after her owner passed away.

23 years for a cat is equivalent to 108 human years-according to International Cat Care.

Tammie Hesmondhalgh, an animal case worker in Cumbria, said: "She was a bit quiet at first when she came as she was shell shocked.

"But she has since really come out of her shell. She loves attention and she is in a clean bill of health. She is not going to cost more than any other cat.

"But there's been no interest at all and we would love to find her a retirement home.

"I think generally at this centre we are quite well supported. The cats never normally stay too long. There is nothing with her that you would not expect for her age - it would take a special person with a large heart to take her in."

Animal Rescue Centre near Kendal is a small charity that currently houses fifty animals. On average, it receives 120 dogs a year and 250 cats and kittens.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the oldest cat ever was Creme Puff in Texas, who lived to 38 years before dying in 2005.
