With the school summer holidays on the horizon, three special shuttlebus routes to some of the Lake District’s most iconic visitor spots are being launched to make it easier than ever for people to leave their cars behind.

As well as handy shuttlebuses taking in Wasdale, Buttermere and Cat Bells, there are ‘park and sail’ tickets and special offers on group bus tickets – giving people the chance to fully immerse themselves in the region’s world-class landscape.

The Wasdale Shuttlebus is a free (donation only) service which provides easy access from Ravenglass and Gosforth to the dramatic surroundings of England's deepest lake and the starting point for hiking routes to the mighty peaks of Sca Fell, Scafell Pike and Great Gable.

Operated by Sim’s Travel, it is running Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays throughout July and August, until Sunday 4 September.

The first and last two journeys of the day link with trains on the Cumbrian Coast Railway.

Meanwhile, the brand-new Cat Bells Shuttlebus service runs from Saturday 23 July (to Saturday 4 September), enabling passengers to travel with ease between Keswick and the foot of Cat Bells.

Some of the Stagecoach buses are also part of the 77/77A ‘Honister Rambler route’, linking to the Honister Pass, Buttermere and Whinlatter.

Or passengers can ‘Park and Sail’ from Keswick Rugby Club and get 15% off tickets on the Keswick launch boats.

Elsewhere, the free daily ‘Buttermere Shuttlebus’ service will link Cockermouth with the Buttermere Valley and its accessible round-the-lake walks.

Well-behaved dogs are also welcome on board the 19 seater mini-bus operated by Hoban’s and running from Saturday 23 July until 4 September.

For families and small groups heading to the Ullswater and Borrowdale Valleys, there are reduced group fares for anyone hopping on and off Stagecoach’s frequent bus services.

The substantial discount for all day travel is back for Summer 2022 following a successful pilot scheme last year.

Passengers can also enjoy greater freedom with ‘Park and Explore’ bus tickets – providing inclusive bus and parking tickets in central Lakes – as well as combined ‘Bus & Boat’ tickets for Coniston, Derwentwater, Ullswater and Windermere.
