The FA Cup draw has thrown up a potential Cumbrian derby.

There is the prospect of a clash between Penrith and Workington Reds in the famous competition's preliminary round.

In order to set up the tie, Darren Edmondson's side will first have to get past fellow Northern League Division One West Allotment Celtic at home in the extra preliminary round.

If they do, they will then welcome Danny Grainger's Reds to the Leo Group Stadium.

The potential all-Cumbrian clash was revealed when the extra preliminary and preliminary round draws were published today.

Carlisle City, in their return to the FA Cup after a 42-year absence, have been handed an away tie.

They will go to Northern League Division One rivals West Auckland Town in their first game in the competition since 1980.

The prize for the winners of that tie will be a home tie against Goole or Consett.

Fellow Cumbrians Kendal Town go to Thornaby in the extra preliminary round.

Extra preliminary round ties are played on Saturday, August 6, with £1,125 prize money on offer to the winners of ties and £375 for the losers.

Preliminary round games - including the potential Penrith v Workington clash - are on Saturday, August 20, with £1,444 up for grabs for winners and £481 for losers.

The draws have also been made for the early rounds of the FA Vase and FA Trophy.

The Vase first round qualifying sees Carlisle City away to Padiham, and Penrith at home to Hoden Community Welfare.

Cleator Moor Celtic, in the second round qualifying, are at home to Eccleshill United or Willington.

If Carlisle City progress to that stage, they will host Barrow-based Holker Old Boys.

Penrith will be at home to Steeton if they make it that far.

The FA Trophy, meanwhile, sees Workington at home to Runcorn Linnets in the first qualifying round on September 10, with £1,500 prize money for the winners and £400 for the losers.

Reds will go to North Shields or Pontefract Colliers if they come through that round.

In the FA Youth Cup preliminary round, meanwhile, Penrith are at home to Bishop Auckland, Cleator Moor Celtic host Newcastle Benfield or Stockton Town and Workington go to Pickering Town.
