St Mary’s Hospice’s iconic Walk to Remember is back on September 9 with a promise it will be more special than ever.

The much-loved event is an opportunity for the community to come together and a special way to celebrate and remember loved ones who are no longer with us.

St Mary’s events and challenges manager Mel Dixon said: “This year we are asking our community who means the world to you? And who will you be walking for? Each step our supporters take raises vital funds for the hospice, which means we can be here for you and those important to you, when and where you need us, now and in the future.”

The event is sponsored by leading offshore wind farm developer Ørsted.

Mel added: “Thank you to Ørsted for making the event possible and for the hard work of staff, volunteers and local businesses to make the event a success. It is a great chance for people across our community to come together with family, friends, colleagues and even pets for a night of fun, making new memories as you walk and celebrating the lives of the special people you are walking to remember.”

On the night, registration for the event opens from 6pm at Better Leisure Centre, Ulverston, and the official walk begins at 8pm. The route is ten miles long, including Swarthmoor, Lindal, and Dalton and ending at Furness Academy.

Since 1988 St Mary’s has been welcoming patients and those important to them.  Hospice staff and volunteers have kept going the extra mile to give outstanding, compassionate care and support to local families at the toughest time of their lives.

St Mary’s mission is to give expert care and compassion so those affected by advancing illness have comfort, choice and dignity.

The hospice’s Walk to Remember raises vital funds to support patients now and in the future.

Mel added: “It’s the continued support, kindness and generosity of our community that makes this possible. We look forward to welcoming you on the 9th of September.”
