Friends of the Lake District’s ‘Great Landscapes Festival’ is scheduled to take place this month.

Planned for August 8 until August 21, the event is expected to draw visitors from across the county.

Bookings for events being held throughout the festival are now open.

The summer series of events celebrate every aspect of our glorious landscapes with something for everyone whatever age or ability.

This year, choose from events being hosted by Friends of the Lake District, Fix the Fells, Cumbria Wildlife Trust and the Solway Coast AONB.

Kay Andrews, landscape engagement officer with Friends of the Lake District said: “Our ‘Great Landscapes Festival’ is all about encouraging people to connect with the landscape. We want to provide people with opportunities to enjoy the landscape responsibly and to try things they may never have done before.

"It’s an opportunity to get out with family or individually and learn about our landscape, its flora, fauna, heritage and management with events taking place across Cumbria.

“Join our Family Fun day on The Helm near Kendal where you can build and decorate your very own hedgehog homes and bee hotels, take part in our treasure hunt or bring a picnic and just enjoy the view. Join a volunteer work party being run by Fix the Fells or a nature walk with Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

"There are plenty of exciting things for you to get involved in and the good news is that they are free to attend.”
