A HOTEL in the Lake District has been nominated for an award for its green credentials.

Cedar Manor in Windermere has been nominated for the European tourism sustainability award GrINN Awards 2022 -organised by Quartz Inn Hotels- in the category of Best Sustainable Accommodation in England.

According to Quartz Inn Hotels, the hotel, which has been run by Jonathan and Caroline Kaye for 15-years, was put forward because of its commitment to cutting down waste, sourcing local food and banning single-use plastics.

A spokesman from the hotel group said: “They are committed to benefiting the environment by saving resources, cutting down waste, raising staff awareness and helping the local community.

“Recycling, reducing food wastage, banning single-use plastics, the installation of water-efficient toilets and showers, sourcing local food and using energy-efficient LED bulbs are among the measures implemented by the property.”

The awards aim to “promote good sustainable practices in the hospitality sector and to increase general awareness of the impact of hospitality and tourism activities on the environment”.

Hotels, pubs and other hospitality establishments and tourism leaders from 23 European countries have been nominated for the awards and the finalists will be announced in the coming weeks after a jury deliberation.

The winners from each of the 50 categories will be chosen among all finalists after a public voting process.
