NEWSQUEST'S Northern football reporters in their podcast, 'Voices of the North', have given their insight ahead of England's match gainst Senegal tonight at 7pm.

The News & Star's own Jon Colman was joined by Scott Wilson from the Northern Echo and Bradford Telegraph & Argus' Simon Parker to analyse England's and Senegal's form going into this exciting match.

On his thoughts leading up to the match tonight, at 7pm, Simon said: "I think England will be quite excited.
"It's gone smoothly so far.
"Who'd have thought they'd have ended up with the best record of all the teams in the group stage?
"I think they go in there with real confidence.
"The Wales game was stodgy for the first half but the second half was very comfortable, so they're riding the crest of the wave from that.
"They've got nothing to be twitchy about.
"I think the biggest problem for Gareth Southgate is what team he goes with, there are so many options for each position, certainly in the attack alongside Kane.
"I think the mood in the camp won't be cocky but it will certainly be confident."
Scott said this England squad is a cut above former teams, and said: "They know how to handle knockout football in a way that England sides in the past haven't."
On going into this World Cup, Jon said: "They do have recent very recent good tournament experience.
"I think I'd agree with Simon, I think they'll go in with confidence."
But, he added: "How much confidence you should get from beating a Wales side who were down there with the worst sides this World Cup has probably got a certain limit."

On what he expects from Senegal, Scott said they're "maybe not a massive goal-scoring threat, but they've shown that they can score goals so far."

Simon said: "We talk about teams riding the crest of a wave confidence-wise, they're certainly on the upward trend.

"We were all very impressed with how they dealt with Ecuador.

"I think England are [sic] going to have to be patient today.

"I think it's going to go a long way."

Jon said: "I think England has to be ready to go the distance.

"I think [Senegal] have got players that could give England's defence possibly the biggest test so far.”
