FANS of Swallows and Amazons will gather at Windermere Jetty Museum in June for another marathon reading of an Arthur Ransome story.
Swallowdale follows the adventures of the Walker and Blackett children during the summer after their first meeting on Wild Cat Island. Things don’t go to plan when the Swallow hits a rock and sinks, but the adventurers make the best of a camp on the mainland in a hidden valley.
The event will take place over the weekend of June 24/25, with individual readers signing up to read a chapter each. It’s organised by the team that staged Swallows and Amazons on the lake shore at Coniston.
One of the organisers, writer and photographer Chris Routledge said: “We do this just for the love of reading aloud. It will be a delightful way to spend a lazy summer weekend at a glorious location right by the lake where many of the stories were set.”
