NEWLYWEDS enjoyed their wedding on a 'lovely sunny day' after getting engaged on top of England's biggest mountain.

Catherine Hodgson, who works in the office at the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, married Ian Hodgson from Moor Row, who works as a landscaping supervisor on Sellafield.

The couple, who live in Seascale with their three children, met while they were working at Muncaster Castle.

Ian was working as part of the forestry team and Catherine worked in the cafe onsite.

The pair got engaged on the top of Scafell Pike on September 27 2020.

Catherine said: "It wasn't really a surprise as Ian had joked that would be the only place he would propose to me."

The couple got married in Tipis on Catherine's parent's farm in Waberthwaite on April 15 2023, surrounded by 70 guests during the day and over 100 in the evening.

Catherine said they enjoyed a 'lovely sunny day.'

She said: "We got married under a homemade wooden arch with views of the Eskdale Valley in the background.

"Everyone was sitting on straw bales. The wedding theme was very rustic, and we had tried to make as much as we could ourselves. We had the order of the day written on pallets, my auntie had made hundreds of meters of hessian bunting, and we had lots of jars and bottles with lights dotted around.

"There were lots of garden games out to entertain the kids. We had a traditional wedding breakfast of soup, roast beef and Rhubarb Crumble, which was delicious.

"In the afternoon, we went up to Wasdale with Clare, our photographer, and got some beautiful shots."

Their first dance was to Lover of the Light by Mumford and Sons.

The couple is planning to have a honeymoon abroad but they will be waiting until next year when their youngest daughter gets older.
