A 20-YEAR-OLD motorist has been disqualified from driving and issued with a community order for drink driving and other road traffic offences.
Jason Scott, of Derbyshire Road in Barrow, failed to stop his Audi A3 after he caused damage to a roundabout on Hollywood Park on October 18 this year, South Cumbria Magistrates Court heard.

Barrow woman died in palliative care after slipping in kitchen
AN elderly lady who slipped in her kitchen died in palliative care after suffering a significant bleed on the brain, an inquest heard.
Violet Agnus Stubbs, aged 97, of Kestrel Drive in Dalton, was admitted to Furness General Hospital on May 15 this year and died three days later.

Barrow motorist with cocaine in system banned from driving and fined
A BARROW man has been slapped with a driving ban and fine after being caught drug driving.
George Bates, of Rawlinson Street, was driving a Volkswagen Golf on Main Street in Haverigg when he was pulled over by police on May 13 this year, South Cumbria Magistrates Court heard.

Woman denies stealing £9k while working at Fat Face
A WOMAN is to stand trial in front of a jury accused of stealing almost £10,000 while working at a Lake District branch of clothing company Fat Face.
Fifty-year-old Clare Fish faces one charge. This alleges theft and specifically that she stole £9,031.50 belonging to Fat Face in Bowness.

Barrow dad sentenced for assaulting child causing unnecessary injury
A BARROW dad who left a red hand mark on his daughter’s bottom has been spared an immediate prison sentence.
The man, who we are not naming to protect the identity of the victim, pleaded guilty on the first day of his trial to assaulting, ill-treating, neglecting or abandoning a child to cause unnecessary suffering or injury.

Gerald Goodwin died after being struck by a train in Dalton
A RETIRED chef with Alzheimer’s who had drunk a ‘significant amount’ of alcohol died after being struck by a train, an inquest heard.
Gerald Goodwin, 64, of Pennine Gardens, in Barrow, was walking on the tracks near Dalton station when he was hit from behind at approximately 40 mph just before midnight on November 10, 2022.

Barrow woman directed transphobic abuse at person she passed on street
A WOMAN who directed transphobic abuse towards a person she passed in the street has been sentenced by a court.Andrea Brierley used threatening or abusive words during the incident in Barrow on September 9, South Cumbria Magistrates' Court.

William Wilkinson admits murdering Eddie Forrester in Blackpool
A MURDERER 'dismembered' his victim and scattered his body parts in Cumbria, police said.
William Wilkinson, 65, of Seafield Road in Blackpool, pleaded guilty to murder at Preston Crown Court today.

A BOARDING school student with a history of self-harm took her on life, an inquest has heard.
Denise Brittany Duay Bowers died at the age of 17 while studying at Dallam School.

Barrow sex offender jailed for five-and-a-half years
A REGISTERED sex offender who broke the terms of a court order and attempted to communicate sexually with what he thought was a child has been jailed for five-and-a-half years.
Iain Stavert was brought before Preston Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday (November 16) following work by police after he communicated online with a law enforcement employee who he believed to be a child.

Ulverston man banned after drug driving twice in one month
A MOTORIST from Ulverston has been banned from driving for 18 months after he pleaded guilty to two offences of drug driving within the space of one month.
Samuel Huck, of Lime Tree Road, admitted to driving his Volkswagen Up on Lumley Street in Barrow on May 9 this year while five times above the legal Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol drug limit.

Barrow motorist disqualified for three years after drink driving twice
A MOTORIST was caught drink driving on two separate occasions in the space of three months.
Robert Selby, of Ship Street in Barrow, was disqualified from driving for a period of three years after he pleaded guilty to two counts of driving whilst above the legal alcohol limit, and for failing to stop after a road traffic accident.

Dalton teenager sentenced for racially aggravated harassment
A TEENAGER has been ordered to pay compensation for a racially aggravated offence.
Dylan Stevens, of Baker Close in Dalton-, pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to racial/religiously aggravated intentional harassment when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates Court on November 16.
