A MAN is to appear in court charged with having custody of a prohibited fighting dog in Kendal.
Liam Garrity, 20, of Anchorite Fields in Kendal, is said to have had an XL Bully called Blue in his possession on May 22 2024.
It comes after the Government announced that on October 31 2023 that the American Bully XL type dog had been added to the banned breeds list in England and Wales following a ‘concerning rise in attacks from these dangerous dogs’.
The government made it a criminal offence to own the breed of dog from February 1 this year without an exemption certificate.
Garrity is charged with the offence contrary to section 1(3) and (7) of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.
He will give an indication of plea to the offence at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court on the morning of June 24 (Monday).
