A TOWN's bouldering facility is enjoying a major expansion and refurbishment of over £500,000.
Earlier this year KendalWall extended its offering further and built a dedicated bouldering facility, located in a large unit next to its existing site in The Lake District Business Park in Kendal.
Following on from the new ‘Unit 34’, KendalWall has continued to reinvest with a major refurbishment of its famous Main Wall. The wall is the tallest of its kind in the country, towering above at a height of 25 meters.
The work was undertaken by Kong Climbing based in Keswick. Kong has a long history with the centre and was the original builder of the Main Wall nearly 30 years ago. The in-house setting team led by Ben Roe worked hard to plaster the walls with new climbs that have been thoroughly enjoyed by customers since the re-opening on July 6.
The next stage in the redevelopment will begin in August and involve a refresh of the bouldering facilities on the top floor.
Centre manager Ben Mitchell is delighted with the re-investment programme of over £500,000.
He said: “Our mission is to get people climbing and KendalWall again takes its place as one of the premium facilities nationwide. It really does punch above its weight when it comes to the size, support and dedication of its climbing community.”
The business has welcomed over a million visitors through its doors since opening in 1995 and has built a wonderful indoor climbing community spanning all ages.
The centre is one of the UK’s largest climbing gyms and houses Europe’s first indoor Via Ferrata.
The facility caters to everyone, from a dedicated children’s clip and climb floor to a wealth of other training facilities that continue to nurture some of the best climbers in the country.
As seen in this year's Olympic Games, bouldering is a highly accessible aspect of climbing that provides both a physical and mental challenge, whilst also being very sociable. There is no need for any complex gear, you can get involved with just a pair of climbing shoes which you can rent from the centre.
