An on-call firefighter working in Hornby has retired after 40 years in service.
Adrian Willan, who first joined the brigade in July 1984, was celebrated on the evening of Wednesday, July 31, receiving presents from colleagues as well as the special King’s Coronation Medal.
Mr Willan’s dedication to the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is part of an ongoing family tradition.
His grandfather once served at the same station, while his son, Mike Willan, keeps the family legacy burning brightly as on-call crew manager in Hornby and wholetime crew manager in Blackpool.
One of Mr Willan’s career highlights was standing alongside his son during his first experience entering a building on fire, wearing Breathing Apparatus.
Mr Willan acknowledges the transformations in personal protective equipment and technology that have transformed firefighting since his career began.
He expressed his appreciation for the chance to serve and evolve within the service.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Steve Healey, praised Mr Willan for his 40 years of service and dedication.
He also shared the important role that on-call firefighters play in the community, before thanking Mr Willan's wife for her support.
The team shared that Mr Willan's legacy and contributions will continue to inspire future generations of firefighters.
