Better Health manager Danii Vipond Houghton, has been nationally acknowledged for her local community's health betterment.

In her role at GLL, covering Westmorland and Furness, Danii was shortlisted for a prestigious award due to her exceptional work leveraging physical activities to enhance health conditions locally.

The officials made this confirmation on the previous Thursday, and the recognition event, the ukactive Awards 2024, is to take place by the year-end.

Working alongside entities such as Age UK, the Local Authority, and both the North and South Cumbria NHS Health Trusts, Danii's initiatives aim to ensure locals live healthier, longer lives.

After the merging of the NHS MSK department with Kendal Leisure Centre in 2022, she established a program named Healthwise Physical Activity.

This pathway provides necessary support to those suffering from health conditions directly related to decreased mobility, poor exercise habits, and pain.

NHS referrals are given to the initiative as 'exercise on prescription', catering to individuals for whom conventional physical activities may not seem suited.

Notably, Danii has also aided numerous older adults in taking up swimming again - an effort that has sparked significant improvements in their mood and mobility.

The fruitful results of these undertakings have been striking.

The NHS in Cumbria reported hospital admissions savings of £150,000, and GLL notes a whopping £3.4m of social value generated directly from its regional interventions.

The proposed award, Physical Activity Hero, recognizes Danii's success in drastically increasing the Healthwise participant count - she managed to surge it from 26 to 630 members in less than two years.

Holding her degree in Sport, Physical Activity and Health from Leeds Beckett University, Danii began her career aiming to promote a more active lifestyle under the Leeds and Lancaster City Councils.

Her love for fitness, sports, and health transcends into her personal life as an enthusiast of walks, swims, and camping, particularly in Lake District's stunning landscape.
