A Sedbergh business that makes purpose-built offices for people’s gardens has branched out by making the buildings for other purposes.

Some clients have used the extra space for a work studio close to home while one in Windermere turned it into an extension of their terraced home.

Now Sedbergh-based Zencabins has completed work on a cabin that provides a stand-alone classroom in the grounds of Selside Primary School.

Dubbed the Zen Den, it has created a quieter space, away from the main school, which will be used for a range of classroom activities as well as a base for extended services for families in the local community.

Head teacher Caronne Field is delighted with the new addition: “They have created a very special eco cabin in our school grounds, which sits in perfect harmony with the landscape. We love the curved shape of the building, which is reminiscent of old railway carriages, some of which you can still find on farms around Sedbergh.

“We also like the way in which high quality environmentally-friendly products have been used in its construction, for example, the use of sheep’s wool to insulate the walls.”
