CUMBRIA Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene of a boat fire at Far Sawrey, Windermere this morning (August 7).
A 37ft boat was reported to have set alight at around 10.45am.
Kendal’s station manager, Steve Sharrock said that a man was working on the craft with a petrol-powered generator, refilling with fuel when the fire occurred.
Mr Sharrock said that the man had escaped uninjured and the fire developed.
He added that one of the main concerns for the 11 crew members was the gas cylinders that were on board the boat, but they heard from members of the public that there had been explosions before the crew arrived.
Mr Sharrock said that the boat has been "totally destroyed" and is now grounded at the side of Windermere.
