OWNERS of the Sun Inn at Kirkby Lonsdale are celebrating after being awarded a five-star AA rating in double quick time.

Mark and Lucy Fuller bought the Sun Inn on Market Street two years ago after having spent many years working in the hospitality industry.

As their first solo project, they set themselves some very stretching targets, including achieving both five-star AA rating and a rosette within five years.

Since acquiring The Sun, the Fullers have invested in a new roof and, in the past 12 months alone, have spent £180,000 on interior refurbishments. The bedrooms have been upgraded and six are now deluxe standard. Each bedroom has an en-suite, and meets the main standards required to achieve the five-star AA rating accolade.

To achieve a Rosette Award, the AA stipulates that restaurants must stand out in their local area. The food must be prepared with care, understanding and skill, using good-quality ingredients. As a result, Mark and Lucy also altered the kitchen and restaurant, as they strove to achieve that elusive rosette.
