SALLY Broom, founder and managing director of Your Safe Planet, featured in the Future 100 Young Entrepreneurs of the Year during the first Global Entrepreneurship Week 2008.

The Future 100 Awards showcase young entrepreneurs aged 18-35 who demonstrate entrepreneurial flair and innovation in progressing a responsible business venture.

Your Safe Planet, based at Ulverston, puts travellers of all ages and backgrounds in touch with local experts in the places they want to visit. The business describes its service as similar to having ‘a friend at the other end’.

Sally met Gordon Brown at the launch event of Global Enterprise Week, and she chatted to the prime minister about her company’s concept and sustainable travel goals.

Your Safe Planet (YSP) aims to build on top of guidebooks and provide inexpensive, bespoke itineraries for travellers using up to date local knowledge.

Sally said: “I am honoured to be named a Future 100 winner, especially during this, the first Global Enterprise Week. YSP is a global enterprise, using trusted contacts across the world to help travellers get under the skin of a new place and access local knowledge. For this effort to be recognised is a great boost and it encourages us to keep going despite the tough economic conditions.”
