A SOUTH Lakeland retailer has been voted the best bike shop in the country by readers of Singletrack magazine.
Biketreks of Ambleside has won the award twice in the last three years, and says it represents a tremendous accolade for the store.
Owner Andy Stephenson started the business out of the back of a van at North of England mountain bike events nearly 20 years ago.
At the time mountain biking was still a fledgling sport, and Andy hired out mountain bikes and fixed bikes out and about in the Lake District.
Today Biketreks operates from a two-storey building with modern, purpose-built bike displays. It offers a wide range of road and mountain bikes, specialist clothing, and accessories, and has a professional workshop both building and servicing bikes.
