A BUSINESS is passing on some of the tricks of its trade by offering training in upholstery techniques to students.

Stuart Bottomley and Rachel Zivkovic, of Kendal Upholstery, have seen its first students complete their Level 2 Craft Certificate course, one of only two courses in the UK that is accredited by the Association of Master Upholsterers and Soft Furnishers (AMUSF).

“We had six students in all and they came from a range of backgrounds,” said Stuart. “As well as a couple of relatively local people, we had students from elsewhere in the UK and even one, Patricia, who came all the way from Bermuda to complete the course.”

The seven-week course covers all aspects of traditional upholstery techniques and the students have each completed a number of practical projects, ranging from dining chairs and sofas to a Victorian drop-arm settee and an authentic hunting chair.
