A £300,000 cash injection is being pumped into health care to help residents suffering from longterm conditions.
Five new Community Matrons will soon be working across the Bay area to help locals who suffer with a wide range of conditions, such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis, arthritis and Parkinson’s disease, to manage their condition.
The cash is being invested by NHS North Lancashire with the aim that community matrons will work closely with GPs, hospital doctors and other local health and social care services to make sure that patients can manage their health and stay out of hospital.
The new Matrons will be providing particular support for people in the Lancaster, Morecambe and Carnforth areas who have been to hospital a number of times to try to reduce their likelihood of being readmitted.
