A REMOTE Eden farmhouse that is set to go under the hammer has attracted interest from film buffs across the world.
Isolated Sleddale Hall, near Shap - made famous by the cult 1980s film Withnail and I - is to be sold at auction next month by United Utilities, who have so far received calls from people as far as Australia and Botswana hoping to snap up this iconic piece of film history.
As ‘Uncle Monty’s cottage’, Sleddale Hall was used for many exterior shots in the film, which follows two out-of-work actors - played by Richard E Grant and Paul McGann - as they venture to the Lake District to escape London only to find themselves hilariously ill-equipped for the bleak conditions.
