A PENSIONER took advantage of his free bus pass to travel Cumbria raising awareness of the county’s connections with Argentina.
Martin Dodds from Sedbergh spent three weeks hopping on and off buses to visit 16 Methodist chapels from Garsdale to Cockermouth.
The 65-year-old chose towns and villages that would spell out the words ‘Cumbria’ and ‘Patagonia’ - the Argentinian region partnered with the local Methodist scene - and relied on the generosity of residents for accommodation during his trip.
“Everyone was wonderful, very accommodating and welcoming,” he said. “I was even impressed by the buses because I’ve not used public transport much before.”
During each visit Mr Dodds met members of the circuit to talk about the link with Argentina.
