RAIL services throughout the north west England are badly affected by the floods, with trains not running and buses that would have replaced them unable to operate in some areas.
Among areas where trains were not operating were Carlisle to Maryport in Cumbria, Carlisle to Carstairs, Dundee to Aberdeen, and Glasgow to Dunblane.
Services run by ScotRail, CrossCountry, East Coast and Northern Rail were all affected, with passengers suffering cancellations and service alterations.
First TransPennine Express and Virgin Trains’ services were also hit because of a landslip between Carlisle and Penrith North Lakes.
