A YEAR-LONG redevelopment project which will benefit the community of Kendal starts tomorrow.
Work begins on transforming the YWCA into the South Lakes Foyer which will provide accommodation, training, employment, ICT facilities, advice and guidance to support the needs and aspirations of young people aged from 16 to 24.
Facilities at the foyer will include 14 self-contained flats, with facilities for disabled people, as well as training and meeting rooms, and a Cyber Café with public Internet access.
Mike Muir, chief executive of Impact Housing, said “We are excited to be finally able to start on site with this ambitious new project. Every major town needs a Foyer for its young people and we are really pleased to be able to provide this service jointly with the YWCA for the people of Kendal.”
The new development should be open by March 31, 2011.
