THE remarks made about POWA by Tom Fell of the Countryside Alliance (Letters, August 26) must be refuted.

Contrary to his statement, no POWA monitor has ever been accused, tried or convicted of harassing members of any hunt in the Midlands or anywhere else.

There is absolutely no justification for the comment that monitors have shown themselves prepared to endanger both animals and people, as Mr Fell must know perfectly well.

We would remind him that the purpose of our monitoring activities is to collect filmed evidence of hunt cruelty, havoc and chaos. Any allegations we may make can invariably be backed by video evidence.

The disgraceful assertions made in Mr Fell's letter, on the other hand, cannot be substantiated as the allegations are false.

John Bryant, Protect Our Wild Animals (POWA).
