WITH several players attending a wedding, the Westmorland League allowed Appleby FC a free day for both the first team and reserves at the weekend.
Many other teams were involved in Westmorland Senior Cup action and, as a result, only two games were played in Division One.
For Appleby the most significant of those was Coniston's 3-0 defeat of Ibis, which moved them two points above Appleby to fifth-place. Appleby have two games in hand, however, on both Coniston and sixth-placed Ibis.
In Division Three, Kirkby Stephen-based Carvetii United continued to forge ahead and now have a six-point lead thanks to a 4-1 victory over second-placed Northbank Carlisle Reserves.
Appleby Reserves remain eighth in the table after Ibis Reserves, who could have overtaken them were hammered 8-2 by Ambleside Reserves.
