ULVERSTON announced its arrival on the fashion scene with its first sell-out catwalk show. The Ulverston Fashion Festival is a regular on the town's events calendar but for the first time ever its Coronation Hall show was completely full with 530 tickets sold.

"It was absolutely dazzling, the best show ever," said organiser Ralph Spours. "We have always had a few nice shops here but now we have so many more. Even I was astonished at the range of products we have got in Ulverston."

To thunderous applause, local models with hair-dos coiffured by Spectrum hairdressers displayed the wares of 13 clothes and accessory shops as well as costumes designed by Ulverston Victoria High School pupils.

New participants included Joanna's Closet, which is due to open on Market Street, selling labels including Victoria Beckams's clothing range, Gas and Replay. Emporium, a new bridal wear shop opening on Queen Street also had its dresses on the catwalk while Cups and Corsets of Upper Brook Street paraded underwear. Women's boutiques Olive and Pure also took part for the first time alongside leather accessory shop Rushforths.
