PHIL Wilson is ready to rack-up a big phone bill as he tries to solve his striking crisis ahead of Saturday's FA Trophy showdown with Workington at Giant Axe.

Lancaster City's increasingly frustrated boss needs attacking options with young Alex Taylor the only out-and-out front man fit.

Dave Shaw isn't match fit yet and Wilson partnered Steve Skinner alongside the teen sensation for the 1-0 defeat at Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday.

Skinner, who wouldn't class himself as a striker, performed admirably but Wilson says: "We are short up front.

"But people are wanting too much money and it is difficult. I have made a lot of calls and will make some more because we really do need someone experienced to come in.

"It isn't easy but I will try to sign someone.

"It will be a hard game on Saturday against Workington because they are a decent side as they proved when we drew up there with them.

"But if we play as well as we can then we have a good chance and even more so if I can get a striker in."

The Dolly Blues were beaten at their bogey ground on Saturday despite dominating a match for the second week in a row.

Young Mike Eckersley missed a last minute penalty and that was another blow for City as Taylor, the nominated kicker was off the field receiving treatment to the knee he injured while winning the spot kick.

"That's the way it goes sometimes," adds the manager.

"But we are playing well without reward and that is frustrating."

City's sportsmans' dinner takes place at the Dolly Blue on Thursday, December 1.

Guest speaker is Eric Harrison, who discovered David Beckham, with comedy provided by Carl Schofield.

Tickets are priced £25 and are available from the club office or by calling 01524-382238.
